History

The Wodonga Fire Brigade was founded in 1893 from a need to protect life and property in what was a small town straddling the Melbourne-Sydney railway line.

As the 1960s drew to a close, an era of unprecedented growth dawned and Wodonga confounded the critics to become Victoria’s fastest growing provincial centre. That growth has brought momentous change, almost of pressures and a myriad of needs, but as organisations and services have changed or disappeared, the Wodonga Urban Fire Brigade has followed its charter of service to the community with unshakeable commitment.

Since 1976 the brigade has had career firefighters serving alongside volunteers.

Our commitment is to uphold the proud history of service established over the past 100 years.

Our commitment is to achieve and maintain the highest levels of training, along with the best possible equipment.

Above all, our commitment is to work together to keep safe the people of Wodonga and to minimise damage to property.
